Malinda Pushpakumara – Sri Lanka

The stats say it all about this guy a left arm spinner of the very highest class who also bats very well. An international cricketer with 4 tests and 2 Odis and would surely have played many more but for the presence of the brilliant Rangana Herath.  Malinda has been Sri Lanka’s most prolific domestic wicket-taker of recent years. it is Pushpakumara’s consistency that makes him stand out. He was the 1st class Tournament’s top wicket-taker in the 2012-13 & 2014-15 tournaments, and was among the best again in the years in between. But 2016-17 was his best tournament of the lot: at an average of 13.79, Pushpakumara claimed 77 scalps – 20 more than his nearest competitor. With that tally, he finally forced himself into a Sri Lanka Test squad, at the age of 29 and with 558 first-class wickets to his name. The delay in his being chosen for the top level perhaps also has to do with Rangana Herath’s presence in the team – the selectors believing only on left-arm spinner necessary.

Malinda played for SL U19s and for Sri Lanka A with some success, against the likes of South Africa A, New Zealand A and West Indies A. He currently has an incredible 793 1st class wickets average 19.98 each plus 158 in the 50 Over format averaging 18.98 each and finally 91 in T20s averaging just 13.43 each.

It would be quite wrong to tag Malinda as simply a bowler brilliant tho he is he has also plenty of ability with the bat with a high score of 80 not out and 4 other scores over 50 proving he would be very competitive with the blade in UK League cricket. This is a very rare opportunity to sign one of the worlds premier spin bowling all rounders and for a club looking for his type he should be at the very top of the list
