Born in Meerut, Umang Sharma is a right-handed batsman and decent off spinner, who plays for Uttar Pradesh and has also represented them at the U-19 and U-22 levels. After his debut in 2012, Umang didn’t score a century for almost three years in any form of the game till his 215 against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy in December 2015. His breakthrough domestic season came in 2015-16 as he scored 1013 runs in 21 matches in all formats. Despite having a lean T20 record leading up to the 2016 IPL auction – with an average of 17.93 in 23 games – he was picked up by Gujarat Lions for his base price of INR 10 lakhs (15000 USD) in the second round of bidding. Umang averages a brilliant 41.72 for Uttar Pradesh in Indian 1st class cricket with 4 tons and 10 half centuries he also bowls very decent off spin and is an ideal type for UK Club cricket. Umangs suitability for UK League cricket was demosnstrated by his brilliant 47 ball 95 against Baroda in January 2018 (his 3rd successive score over 50) where he completely overshadowed his captain and Indian Superstar Suresh Raina as they shared a stand of 160 to romp to victory. Umang is very keen to secure a club contract for 2019 and is sure to be in high demand.
